12 Days - Beach and Culture in Central Vietnam

This 11 day itinerary will throw you into the depths Vietnam‘s rich cultural history, whilst still giving you the option to have a relaxing holiday by the beach. The perfect balance between culture and play, this holiday will show you all Vietnam has to offer from cyclo rides to the Citadels and boat trips down Perfume River, to personal tours of the markets with the cuisine connoisseurs and water sports on your resorts’ beach. After touring the Hoi An World Heritage Site, bask in the historical masterpieces that inhabit My Son, Vietnam’s former capital of the ancient Cham civilizarion that ruled Central Vietnam from the 2nd to the 13th century.

Day 01: Arrival
After you arrive in Hue, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel.
Stay: La Residence, 3 nights

Day 02: Hue, City Excursion
Start exploring the city of Hue with a 10-min cyclo tour to the Imperial Citadel. As Hue was once the imperial capital of the Nguyen Lords it houses the Capital Citadel (the bastion), Royal Citadel (the sanctum), and the Forbidden Citadel (the royal family’s residence); these buildings are fillied with ancient history and architecture. Afterwards take a 20-min cyclo ride to the boat docking station, where you will enjoy a 30 minute boat trip on the Perfume River to visit the Thien Mu pagoda. The Thien Mu pagoda is easily Hue’s oldest religious building, with its seven tiers and riverside views it is a stunning site.

This afternoon, drive out 30 minutes to the Tu Duc Royal Tomb which was designed to be at one with the nature that surrounds it. You can stop at an incense making house before moving on to the Khai Dinh Royal Tomb.

Day 03: Hue Cuisine Discovery
As a result of being the imperial capital, Hue has mastered the art of fine cooking. Today, discover the delicacies of Royal cuisine with a chef from the Ancient Hue restaurant. Your chef will take you to the Dong Ba market and help you explore all the aspects of Hue cuisine. Once at the Ancient Hue restaurant you will feel like you’ve travelled back in time as you walk through the courtyard which is surrounded by five authentic Hue houses dating from the 1800s. As your chef guides you through Hue’s gourmet cuisine you will learn how to decorate every dish like a piece of artwork.

Day 04: Hue to Lang Co
This morning you will be transferred to the hotel in Lang Co.
Stay: Angasa Lang Co, 3 nights.

Day 05 - 06: Lang Co
The next two days are to be spend however you desire. You can enjoy the water sports, ATV adventures and traditional Vietnamese craft classes that the resort offers or perhaps indulge in a soothing massage at the spa.

Day 07: Lang Co to Hoi An
Enjoy a leisurely drive to Danang over the Hai Van Pass which offers wonderful views of central coastline at the summit. Once in Danang you will continue your drive for 45 minutes to reach the ancient town of Hoi An. After arriving in Hoi An, you will have the rest of the day free.
Stay: The Nam Hai, 4 nights

Day 08: Hoi An
Hoi An was a flourishing trading port for several centuries. Now this historical town is a World Heritage site and is able to give visitors a chance to experience the areas history. In order to fully explore the area, it is ideal to take a walking tour and visit Hoi An’s sights. The best places to see are the merchant houses which pull from Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese architecture, the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, the Assembly Hall of the Chaozhou Chinese Congregation with outstanding wood carvings, and the colorful market with stalls brimming with tropical specialties including silk. If it is available you can also stop by the private home of Diep Dong Nguyen which is filled with artifacts from Hoi An’s past.

Day 09: Hoi An
Experience an organic discovery tour with the local farmers in the rural outskirts of Hoi An ancient town. Start your morning with a leisurely 4km bike ride through the countryside, heading to Tra Que vegetable village which is named after a sweet scented herb they grow and use to spice up Hoi An specialties, like Cao Lau noodle. Upon arrival, learn about the history and custom of this charming village. Then, get your farming instruments out to the garden (Optional put on the provided traditional farming wear, otherwise, make sure you have suitable clothes today). Join the friendly farmers to prepare the land and learn the local form of fertilization using seaweed from the local lake. Learn the traditional gardening methods and how they cultivate the vegetables.

Day 10: Hoi An – My Son
Considered one of the best-preserved Cham centers in Vietnam, My Son is the former capital of the ancient Cham civilization that ruled Central Vietnam from the 2nd to the 13th century. The 1.5-hour drive in the morning will bring you to My Son where there are 20 monuments still standing today, set in a verdant valley surrounded by hills and overlooked by massive Cat’s Tooth Mountain. Stroll around the temple complex to learn about the Cham culture, architecture and civilization before coming back to Hoi An before noon.

Day 11 & 12: Danang - Departure/ Air
Free day at at leisure in Hoian on day 11. Transfer to the airport for the departure flight (45 mins driving). End of our service
